Doug Smith
Doug Smith studied Fine Art at Portsmouth College Art, graduating with a First Class Honours Degree. It was during this course that he 'discovered' film and began making his own. He then went on to gain a Masters Degree in Film & Television at the Royal College of Art in London.
On leaving Film School he worked as a film editor for four years, working on television commercials, music promos and television documentaries (including several for the BBC TV’s Omnibus strand). This period led him naturally to commence working as a Director, and since then has worked extensively in all areas of the industry: broadcast, corporate, commercials, music promos (including clips for Roxy Music, XTC, Iron Maiden and Def Leppard)
In the non-broadcast sector, Doug has directed a wide variety of programmes for a huge range of clients and his programmes for the Post Office, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, and the British Tourist Authority have won awards at Festivals in the US and the UK.
Since returning to his home town of Derby after thirty years of living and working in London, Doug has worked as an Associate Lecturer in Film & Video Production at the University of Derby, whilst continuing to be active in the film and video industry. Doug runs his own independent production company smith & smith.

Huw Davies
Professor Huw Davies is Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Design & Technology at the University of Derby a post he has held since October 2007. Prior to that he worked at Edinburgh Napier University, where he was Head of the School of Creative Industries and had overall responsibility for the Skillset funded Screen Academy Scotland.
Huw’s background is as a filmmaker, photographer and curator. His work has included commissions for the Arts Council, Scottish Screen, BBC and the Discovery Channel, which have been network broadcast and screened extensively at international film festivals, most recently winning awards at Barcelona, Houston and Florence.
He is currently a board member of QUAD and Format International Photography Festival and is Chair of the Board of the Berwick Film and Media Arts Festival, which he co-founded in 2004.

Adam Marsh
Adam Marsh is the Film Programmer at QUAD in Derby. He has a background in short filmmaking and screenwriting, both funded and zero budget.
His short film Space Cadet was funded via the First Cut programme and was screened on ITV while his screenplay Lost Property was shortlisted for the East Midlands Screenwriting Award in 2004. He has just completed a MA in Film Studies and Screenwriting.
