BABY J FEAT ASHLEY WALTERS & NATHAN
‘Lies’
Here’s the first single to be lifted off Baby J’s new album ‘Baby Food’ which will be released in October on Plastic Head’s recently formed Abstract Urban label. If you don’t know about Baby J he’s probably best described as the UK’s number 1 urban & hip-hop producer and beat maker who has worked with most big UK Rap names as well as doing offical remixes for Mark Ronson & Amy Winehouse, as well as being the official support act for Jay-Z’s current Juky 2008 UK tour. It’s a slice of well crafted dancefloor flava that features the vocal talents of Asher D (So Solid Crew) and R&B sensation Nathan. It has a nice bouncy club feel with a snappin Neptunes-esque groove with a Scooby-Doo type leadline. Nathan deals with the hooks well and Asher D deals with the bars. It’s all good and has already been playlisted on most of the UK’s well-respected urban radio channels. October is going to be a good month for UK Rap with a few solid releases due. ‘Baby Food’ will be one of those albums! Featuring the likes of Million Dan, Lowkey, Farma G and many more it’s going to be massive. Look out for it and support.

BABY J FEAT ALEX BLOOD
‘Wake Up ’
Wake Up is the latest release from the UK producer who has worked with some of the biggest names in the game. This time he returns with fellow midlander Alex Blood. The track, surprisingly for its subject matter is rather upbeat and jolly. The beat reminds me of Redman's Smash Somthin' a bit, but different of course with the main refrain played on a tightly strung guitar or mandolin.
For some reason I have the wrong initial perception of Alex Blood as everything I have heard him do I have liked, but somehow I expect less. On this he uses his easygoing style and different vocal inflections to dictate a scene he is confronted with one morning. Having been out the previous night, he has woken up late and needs a caffeine inection to get going. I like him on this too.
The track has already enjoyed airplay on Annie Mac’s Mash Up on BBC Radio 1 and Friction’s BBC Asian Network show. The Remix features JK2 & Wariko making this one hell of a record to contend with. The replacement MCs take a different approach stating that they never sleeps as they is on the grind all the time, so they are already woken up!
